As a leading supplier of international Medium Voltage (MV) cable, NA2XSY cables are a core part of our portfolio. The NA2XSY has a single core aluminium stranded class 2 conductor with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, copper wire metallic screen, and a red polyvinyl chloride (PVC) oversheath. 

NA2XSY cable specification

NA2XSY cable is widely used in internal/external power distribution networks: external where it's either direct buried or installed into cable ducting, but also it can be run and terminated inside a building as the NA2XSY cable is flame retardant to VDE 0482-332-1-2 and IEC 60332-1.

As the aluminium equivalent of the Copper conductor N2XSY cable, it is commonly specified where there are no space constraints or where cable weight may be a consideration. It should be noted that to achieve parity in current carrying capacity with the Copper variant, the Aluminium NA2XSY would need to be increased on average two cable sizes.

The NA2XSY cable is CPR Compliant, making it suitable for installation in buildings and constructions across Europe (subject to any minimum classification or risk level).

Our range of NA2XSY cables are also available made in accordance with VDE 0276-620, and European standard HD620 on request.

Installing NA2XSY Cables

The NA2XSY provides long-term operational reliability due to a low dielectric loss factor and the strong XLPE insulation. Nevertheless, it should be used in fixed installations to avoid mechanical or tensile strain. 

This cable is relatively easy to install, even in tight guideways. It is also suitable to install in temperatures as low as -5oC. Technical data relating to the Maximum Pulling Tensions (subject to installation method) can be requested from the team.

Where the installation is wholly external it may be preferably to consider the MDPE sheathed NA2XS2Y (with additional waterblocking also available); and where run predominantly internally in high risk environments, the NA2XSH LSZH sheathing may be a suitable option.

The available current ratings for this range of medium voltage cable are as follows, with key sizes available direct from stock or on short manufacturing lead times for extended requirements:

6/10 (12)kV – Test Voltage 21kV
8.7/15 (17.5)kV – Test Voltage 30.45kV
12/20 (24)kV – Test Voltage 42kV
18/30 (36)kV – Test Voltage 63kV
