SANS Type 41 and Type 61 Cable Specification

These Flexible Trailing cables for mining applications are suited to reeling and non-reeling industrial applications including submersible pumps, loaders, drilling rigs, low haulage dumpers and conveyors. Both Type 41 and Type 61a cables meet the requirements of the South African Standards Bureau SABS 1520 Part 1 for low and medium voltage cables.

SANS Type 41 and Type 61 Cable Voltages

Type 41 and Type 61 cables have a rated voltage of 640/110V, along with a robust Polychloroprene Rubber (abbreviated CR) or thermoplastic Polyurethane  (TPU) outer sheath to provide a protective barrier against many of the environmental and physical challenges a cable will find when in use. They includes Ozone and UV resistance, chemicals and abrasion resistance, heat resistance, and low flammability.

The TPU sheathing on the Type 61a cable is highly recognisable as transparent with an orange and silver reflective tape underneath.

SANS Type 41 and Type 61 Cable Sizes

Type 41 and Type 61a cables have 6 core cables, with 3 phase cores of tinned annealed copper, 2 pilot cores, and 1 (or 2) earth continuity cores. The phase cores are insulated with Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR). They have a wide operating range, suitable for mining operations around the world, from -40^oC to +90^oC
