SANS Type 611, Type 622 & Type 633 Cables

Forming part of our portfolio of opencast mining industry cables, the Type 611, Type 622 and Type 633 cables (and respective 611-ECC, 622-ECC and 633-ECC variants) are medium voltage cables for portable apparatus.

SANS Type 611, Type 622 and Type 633 Cable Specification

Applications for these South African mining cables include section feeders, medium-sized draglines, shovels and drills, with the cables are suitable for use in hazardous areas. They are manufactured in accordance with South African Standards Bureau SABS.

Type 611, 622 and 633 cables are all sheathed in Polychloroprene Rubber (CR) providing a robust outer protection from UV, ozone, oils and chemicals, as well as being flame retardant and having a good resistance to abrasions. These are all properties key to operations in the harsh and intense conditions of opencast mining around the world. The construction includes a nylon reinforcing braid protecting the underlying tinned copper phase conductors with tinned copper braid and the unscreened pilot cores. 

These cables are also available as 611-ECC, 622-ECC and 633-ECC variants, where one pilot core is replaced with a tinned copper conductor.

SANS Type 611, Type 622 and Type 633 Cable Voltages and Sizes

Type 611 cables have a voltage rating of 6.35/11kV, Type 622 are rated 12.7/22kV, and Type 633 cables are rated 19/33kV. For all 3 voltages, the 3 power cores (conductors) are individually screened with a tinned copper & nylon braid before being laid up with the accompanying 3 pilot cores. These core sizes are listed on the technical datasheet alongside key electrical characteristics to aid cable selection.
