SANS Type 63 and Type 66 Flexible Trailing Cables

Our Mining cable portfolio includes the South African standard Type 63 and Type 66 flexible trailing cables.

SANS Type 63 and Type 66 Cable Specification

Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) insulated and with a Polychloroprene Rubber (CR) inner and outer sheathed both bonded together for additional torsional protection, these flexible cables are designed for trailing applications, including reeling applications. They are laid up as 3 phase cores each with a nylon and tinned copper braid, alongside unscreened pilot core(s).

Flexible trailing cables such as the Type 63 and 66 cables are for opencast mining machinery including medium sized draglines, section feeders, shovels and drills. Also suitable for portable equipment, including those used in hazardous areas.

SANS Type 63 and Type 66 Voltage Ratings

The Type 63 cables have a rated voltage of 1.9/3.3kV. The Type 66 cables have a voltage rating of 3.8/6.6kV.

They are of similar construction (but different voltages) to the Type 41 and 61 (low voltage) and Type 611, 622 and 633 cables which are higher Medium Voltages.

All cables offer good resistance to sunlight, UV radiation, and oils as well as being resistant to abrasions- all factors demanded of cables in the challenging environment of open cast and sub-surface mining operations.
