XHIOAV, XHIO1AV, LXHIOAV & LXHIO1AV Cables

With their double layer of either tape armour - steel tape for the multicore variants and aluminium tape for the single core sizes - the XHIOAV, XHIO1AV, LXHIOAV & LXHIO1AV are referenced by Portuguese cable designations.

XHIOAV, XHIO1AV, LXHIOAV & LXHIO1AV Cable Voltage Ratings

These Medium Voltage cables are available in 3.6/6kV, 6/10kV, 8.7/15kV, 12/20kV and 18/30kV, being manufactured in accordance with international standard IEC 60502-2.

XHIOAV, XHIO1AV, LXHIOAV & LXHIO1AV Cable Specification

Breaking down the cable nomenclature helps to determine the construction:

- the cables prefixed 'X' have Copper conductors, whilst 'LX' are Aluminium;

- the 'IO' references a Copper Tape and Wire screen to aid EMC and limit proximate interference.

- 'A' indicates the tape armour, with the addition of a 1 (as in '1A') indicates a single core cable hence the ATA instead of STA.

- Finally, the 'V' at the end of the cable names refers to the PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) outer sheathing, offering flame retardancy to IEC 60332-1-2 and UV resistance.

PVC as a sheathing material offers good resistance to many oils, chemicals and alkalines, and is robust enough to be well-suited to external installations, including direct burial applications.

Where the installation environment is waterlogged, including where cable ducts are subject to flooding, either additional waterblocking constructional layers should be added or alternatively the PE sheathed variant XHIOAE should be considered. Where a more robust SWA armour is preferred for the application, the XHIORV & LXHIORV would be suited.
