XHIRE, XHI1RE, LXHIRE and LXHI1RE Cable Voltages

Referenced under the Portuguese naming designations, and manufactured in accordance with international standard IEC 60502-2, these Copper and Aluminium conductor cables are available in voltages of 3.6/6kV, 6/10kV, 8.7/15kV, 12/20kV and 18/30kV. 

XHIRE, XHI1RE, LXHIRE and LXHI1RE Cable Specification

The XHIRE & LXHIRE cables are for power distribution, suited to direct burial. The 'E' at the end of the cable names references the Polyethylene (PE) sheathing. This provides a robust layer with good resistance to oils, standing water and other challenges the cables may face in their installation environment.

Single core and three core cables are separately named owing to the armouring materials: the Aluminium Wire Armoured single core cables being XHI1RE / LXHI1RE and the Steel Wire Armoured multicore cables named XHIRE / LXHIRE. This layer of wire armour provides excellent mechanical protection and they are suitable for direct burial, but does restrict the flexibility of cable - a consideration at point of installation. Both the AWA and SWA cables have a copper tape screen as part of their construction.

It should be noted that PE sheathing does not provide for flame retardancy as standard so where this is a consideration, the XHIRV & LXHIRV cables with their PVC outer layer may be considered.

Commonly requested and available cable sizes are provided in the technical datasheets - the range of conductor cross-sectional area sizes differ slightly across the voltage rating. Dimensional data, weights and electrical characteristics are provided to aid cable selection.
