Eland Cables' Fleet Maintenance Garage Achieves IRTE Workshop Accreditation
With a large fleet constantly on the road making deliveries both in the UK, Ireland and across Europe, maintaining those vehicles is paramount. Eland Cables can now announce that our maintenance garage has achieved IRTE accreditation.
From tyres and wheel tracking, to brakes, lights and all the other factors that heavily impact performance, keeping our vehicles on the road is essential to meeting our customer commitments on cable delivery. In fact, it’s so important that we made the decision to bring this responsibility in-house, creating a garage that has the capability to fully service these Euro6 rated vehicles. Building the facility was only half the task – the expertise to deliver that service goes hand-in-hand, with an experienced and talented mechanic taking the lead. These two parts have come together and been recognised in our achieving IRTE accreditation.
IRTE Workshop Accreditation is the best practice audit of workshop standards, covering the health & safety, compliance and performance of operations. Having this recognition underlines our commitment to fleet operational efficiency, which holds FORS Silver certification, and holds safety permits for DVS - it sits alongside the work our Transport and Logistics team undertakes to plan green routes, arrange backhauls, and ensure our drivers are well-equipped for their time on the road. Our drivers are further supported by our in-house JAUPT-accredited Driver Training School which maintains certifications, training, and suitability to drive. Put together, we can be confident of fully trained drivers operating well-maintained vehicles that are driven efficiently.
As with many of the initiatives we implement, the IRTE accreditation also gives a nod to our sustainability commitment. By providing the facilities onsite to service our vehicles we eliminate the journeys to and from local garage workshops. Whilst our HGV fleet operates on biofuels that reduce emissions by around 90%, and we have electric vans too, any opportunity to reduce unnecessary mileage and take prompt actions to maintain efficient vehicle running is a positive action.
We are already seeing the benefit our maintenance workshop brings to our operations – we’re delighted that it has now been formally recognised for the excellent work it does.
