Harmonised Cable (HAR Cable)
Harmonised European cables, commonly known as HAR cables, conform to a harmonisation document set out by CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation.
HAR Cables have a single system of designation code to be used across Europe, and meet the norms set out in harmonisation documents HD 361 and DIN VDE 0292.
European Harmonised Cable Standards
CENELEC is recognised by the European Commission as the leading European standardisation organisation in the electrical field. It is technologically neutral and received contributions from experts from all over Europe to improve standards and quality across its 33 member and 14 affiliate countries. One of its objectives is to create common standards for the marketplace thereby facilitating trade between the European countries.
CENELEC cable standards set out the technical specification for cables in documents outlining the minimum or maximum constructional requirements. This includes the printed letter <HAR> on the outer sheath, printed tape or identification threads.
Harmonised cable standards are adopted at a CENELEC level, with all member states obligated to then adopt within their own national standards. In doing this, harmonised cables are recognised regardless of borders or wiring regulations.
Harmonised Cable Applications
We supply a wide range of European standard HAR cables, including:
Harmonised Rubber Flexible Cables
H07RN-F cable - 450/750V with various applications and often used in mobile power supplies;
H07BN4-F cable (6381TQ) - with an HOFR CSP (Heat & Oil Resistant & Flame Retardant Chlorosulphonated Polyethylene) sheath, it is mostly used in industrial environments where good flexibility and resistance to mechanical abrasion is required;
H07ZZ-F cable to BS EN 50525-3-21 - 450/750V and suitable for installations where lives could be at risk from toxic fumes and smoke in the event of a fire;
H05BN4-F cable - with an HOFR sheath and suitable for domestic premises;
H05RR-F cable (318-TRS) - 300/500V with flexible plain copper conductors and specified for domestic use;
H05GG-F cable - 300/500V with tinned copper conductors for domestic appliances up to 110oC;
H05RNH-F cable (external festoon) - Sheathed in a weather and oil resistant rubber it is designed for domestic premises and suitable for use in hot situations such as immersion heaters;
Harmonised Welding Cables
H01N2-E cable (welding) to BS EN 50525-2-81 - along with H01N2-D this is suitable for adverse conditions and generally used to distribute power from the electrical welding machine to the electrical tool;
H01N2-D cable (welding) to BS EN 50525-2-81 - matches all the welding activities for manually and automatically operated line and spot welding machines.
Harmonised fixed wiring cables
H07V-R / H07V-U cable (6491X) to BS EN 50525-2-31 - H07V-R for the Class 2 stranded conductor and H07V-U for the Class 1 solid conductor;
H07Z-R cable (6491B) to BS EN 50525-3-41 - conduit wiring used in installations where toxic fumes and smoke create a threat to lives and equipment in the event of fire.
Harmonised PVC cables
H05V-K / H07V-K cable (2491X) to BS EN 50525-2-31 - The harmonised codes for 2491X cable manufactured to BS6004 are H05V-K and H07V-K. H05V-K covers 2491X cable with a voltage rating of 300/500V and H07V-K refers to those with a rating of 450/750V;
H03VV-F cable (218-Y) to BS EN 50525-2-12 - suitable for use in households, kitchens and offices. Also suitable for light portable appliances such as radios and table lamps;
H05VV-F cable (318-Y) to BS EN 50525-2-12 - the harmonised code for 318-Y cable is H05VV-F. It is generally used in household appliances such as washing machines and refrigerators;
